INNOVATION IN ACTION

USING TECH TO CREATE A MORE SUSTAINABLE ARENA

The National Hockey League’s (NHL) newest team, the Seattle Kraken, has played its first game at the new Climate Pledge Arena – a US$1 billion venue that hopes to promote environmental issues and Amazon’s retail technology. The arena aims to be the first net net-zero carbon arena in the world. Reclaimed rainwater will be used in its ice rink system and the 18,100-seat venue will be powered entirely by renewable energy, some of which will be generated on-site. Visiting fans are encouraged to download a smartphone application that can be used to store matchday tickets, book and manage parking, and view in-game statistics and highlights. It even offers free travel on the Seattle Monorail to Storm and Kraken games. We know Fluid Fans are more likely to support a team that is aligned with their social values, and the Kraken emphasizing sustainability and carbon neutrality could go a long way in developing their new fanbase.

OUR LATEST REPORT: AI AS INFRASTRUCTURE

“The thrill of standing shoulder to shoulder with other fans, on your feet as the game clock expires, as your team buries the buzzer-beater, is inimitable and irreplaceable. It’s this feeling of shared experience and the “power of togetherness” that keeps live sports, with attendant fans, as a primary pillar of the sports industry.”

Artificial Intelligence is the new foundation upon which the live experience is built. In our newest Intel | Sports Insights report, we argue that AI needs to be seen (and invested in) as a new form of infrastructure. AI and ML are powerful foundational building blocks for ensuring the health, safety, and security of attendees at a venue. Read the brand new report today.
