INNOVATION IN ACTION

WOMEN'S SPORTS CONTINUE TO GO DIGITAL

The Premier Hockey Federation will make ESPN+ its exclusive U.S. broadcasting partner for the 2021-22 season, making the network home to all 60 regular-season games, the Isobel Cup playoffs, and other special events. Our Fan Project research found that Fans of Women’s Sports have been forced to operate on these digital platforms to consume their content, and thus are digital natives when it comes to content consumption. These kinds of digital platforms allow for fans to perform the Co-Watching behavior, which brings the second screen, social experience to streaming. This is the first time that the newly rebranded league will have all of its games on a singular platform, making it easier for fans to know where to go to watch. This is a big step for women’s sports to create a seamless viewing experience.
