INNOVATION IN ACTION
BREAKING BARRIERS IS BECOMING THE NORM
Over the weekend Dutch soccer player Ellen Fokkema made history as the first female to play in a league match for a Dutch Men's senior club. The 20-year-old VV Faorut midfielder is the second woman to play in a men’s professional match. Last year we saw Yuki Nagasato become the first woman to accomplish the feat when she suited up for the Japanese men’s club, Hayabusa Eleven. Fokkema and Nagasato are breaking barriers in global football while others like Sarah Fuller have broken similar barriers in NCAA football. As the industry begins to see more stories like Ellen’s, the question of how to find the right brands, activate sponsorships and measure the impact of these athletes will become increasingly important.
