TECH GIANTS CONTINUING TO GAIN GLOBAL MEDIA RIGHTS
Amazon announced last week that the tech giant has secured the UK rights to Champions League Football matches beginning in 2024. BT will still have a majority of the games throughout the year, but this is just another example of Amazon making its way into the sports industry. Amazon made waves when it acquired the rights to the NFL's Thursday Night Football and hired longtime NBC broadcaster Al Michaels and ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit. To complete the Thursday Night Football experience, Amazon has hired Carissa Thompson to host a panel of studio analysts consisting of NFL greats, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tony Gonzalez, and Aqib Talib. The media rights arms race in sports continues to be a challenging free-for-all with new players and streaming services becoming more and more active.

REDEFINING THE VALUE OF COMMUNITIES IN SPORT
In our latest report, The Growth of the Women's Sports Community, we unveiled our latest innovative metric to the market, the Community Growth Score. The Growth Score is a calculation representing the monthly growth of community membership—both new and existing members. Within this calculation, we reward communities who do a strong job of retaining their existing members over those who acquire new ones along the way. While retention is weighted more heavily than acquisition, continuing to fill your community with new customers is imperative to sustained growth. Therefore, the Community Growth Score is calculated with an algorithm that takes into account both retention and acquisition over a four-year period to derive a score that can be used for determining a community’s strength, relative value, and competitive benchmarking.
