INNOVATION IN ACTION

HISTORY AT THE WORLD'S MOST FAMOUS ARENA

Boxing history was made over the weekend at Madison Square Garden (MSG) when Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano became the first women to headline a boxing match at MSG. Organizers planned for a capacity of around 10,000 seats but had to make more available when those all sold, eventually opening the arena fully. In the end, Taylor did just a little more to stay undefeated in front of an announced sold-out crowd of 19,187 that seemed spilt between Taylor’s Irish and Serrano’s Puerto Rican fans. The magnitude of the match was summed up perfectly by Serrano at the end of the night when she said, "women can sell, women can fight and we put on a hell of a show." Each and every week another attendance, viewership, or investment record seems to appear in the women's sports industry. The writing has been on the wall for some time, have you been paying attention?
