INNOVATION IN ACTION
MAKING HISTORY AND SETTING A NEW STANDARD
Women's sports continue to grow and there seems to be no sign of slowing down. Last week Candace Parker made history by becoming the first woman to be on the cover of the highly popular NBA2K video game. The former No. 1 Overall pick, 2X MVP, and 6X All-Star has been a superstar in the WNBA for the past 14 years. This will be the third year NBA2K has featured WNBA players in the game, but the first time one is featured as a cover athlete as part of the WNBA 25th Anniversary edition. Parker as a cover athlete is another perfect example of the momentum women's sports has built as of late. Media platforms are making the games more accessible, players are becoming change agents through social justice work, and new brand and sponsorship opportunities are becoming available to female athletes. The future is bright, and it is filled with women's sports.
