INNOVATION IN ACTION

INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY DELIVERING A NEW FAN EXPERIENCE ACROSS THE GLOBE

With the Tokyo2020 Olympic Games set to kick off next week without spectators, there will be an unprecedented amount of media coverage. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) are set to produce 9,000 hours of coverage, which is 30 percent more than the 2016 Games in Rio. OBS broadcasts will be using AR and VR technology, 360-degree replays, AI-powered analytics, and a new virtual tool called the "Cheer Map" to allow fans watching on digital platforms to send in cheers and claps in real-time. Storytelling and accessing the athletes is a big part of the Olympic fan experience and this year OBS will be leaning on multiple technology solutions to create a connected and immersive fan experience.
