BREAKING BARRIERS ON THE DIAMOND
Last week Alyssa Nakken made Major League Baseball history once again when she became the first woman to coach on the field during a regular-season game. Nakken took the field as the San Francisco Giants' first base coach in the third inning when Antoan Richardson was ejected. Nakken was ready for the moment and the Hall of Fame was as well. Right after the game, Nakken's helmet was en route to Cooperstown to be enshrined in baseball lore. Nakken, 31, jogged onto the field four days after Rachel Balkovec became the first woman to manage a minor league affiliate of a Major League Baseball team. She guided the New York Yankees' Class A Tampa club to a win in her first game.
