Sportradar To Join Immersive Media Leadership Board, As Sports Innovation Lab Publishes New Data On Media Innovation
Global sports data leaders Sportradar is joining the Sports Innovation Lab’s Immersive Media Leadership Board, with Brian Josephs, Vice President of Digital Sport, to hold the seat. This announcement comes as Sports Innovation Lab publishes new findings that sports executives see the sports industry lagging when it comes to media innovation.
Boston, MA. (August 27, 2019)
Sportradar is joining the Sports Innovation Lab’s Immersive Media Leadership Board, starting in September. Holding a seat on the board is Sportradar’s Vice President of Digital Sport, Brian Josephs.
The Immersive Media Leadership Board, part of an executive leadership program developed by the Sports Innovation Lab, is tasked with defining “immersion” for the sports industry, evaluate what the industry is doing successfully, and develop a road map for the future of immersive media in sports that is social, accessible, and interactive. The board launched on May 31st with the first meeting in New York City. The second of four meetings in the annual program is scheduled for September.
“A primary focus of the Leadership Board’s discussions is analyzing how sports data is incorporated in sports media today, and how it can be better leveraged for immersive experiences for Fluid Fans in the future,” said Sports Innovation Lab CEO Angela Ruggiero. “Having Sportradar, one of the major global leaders in sports data, join the board is a no-brainer, and we’re excited to have Brian provide his perspective and insight on this growing trend.”
“Immersion and interactivity are changing the way fans engage with sports,” said the newest board member Brian Josephs. “Younger generations of fans are consuming sports with higher expectations for their viewing experiences, and at Sportradar, we focus on how our data plays a pivotal role in shaping those experiences. We’re excited about the leadership board program the Sports Innovation Lab has developed, and we’re looking forward to sharing our unique perspective.”
The announcement of Sportradar joining the board comes as the Sports Innovation Lab published new primary research. The new data shows that sports professionals feel the sports industry, and media specifically, is lagging when it comes to maximizing the power of technology.
When asked how successfully the sports media industry acquires and retains audiences, measures impressions, maximizes sponsorship, and optimizes e-commerce, only 38% of respondents said the industry is succeeding with technology while the vast majority, 80%, say technology is having a major impact on the industry.
This data suggests that the sports industry believes there is still quite a bit of work to be done to improve with media, and they believe technology is going to play a major role in how that improvement takes shape.
