Celebrating International Women’s Day

Today marks another chance to celebrate International Women’s Day, and it also offers us a chance to look back at the year we spent working to grow the women’s sports industry.

The Fan Project Initiative

It has been a year since we launched The Fan Project, and we have seen amazing feedback from the market. We collected and analyzed real fan data to unlock to the business potential of women’s sports. The industry has left billions of dollars on the table, and we saw that as an opportunity to change the narrative and deliver investment into the women’s sports industry. Here’s a quick overview of our findings:

  • The Fan Project report found that Fans of Women's Sports (FoWS) exhibit technology driven behaviors that can lead to exponential revenue opportunities for sports brands earlier, and at a higher frequency than all sports fans.

    • The digitally-native Fluid Fan is the path to growth for the entire sports industry, and Fans of Women’s Sports are the most fluid fans of all, representing the future fan and a bullseye for revenue growth.

    • To capitalize on the behaviors of Fans of Women's Sports the industry should move to a Community-Based Monetization Model that produces, distributes, and measures women’s sports content differently.

    • Fans of Women’s Sports exhibit behaviors that provide new revenue stream opportunities including: directly accessing athletes, digitally co-watching games, and learning about the players, leagues, and teams.

  • A new Community-Based Monetization Model has been unlocked that reimagines the traditional revenue streams.

    • Fans of Women’s Sports watch, converse, and buy merchandise in and out of season, and action is driven by more than just the games.

    • Fans of Women's Sports reward Brands who sponsor women’s sports with immediate increased brand engagement and higher levels of brand affinity (vs general sports fans).

Taking Action on National Girls and Women in Sports Day

We celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports Day with three phenomenal women. Angela Ruggiero, Alyssa Milano, and Dr. Jen Welter sat down for a conversation on the impact of some of the legendary women in sport that came before them, and how they are using this day to take action. Together we can continue to empower girls and women in sport.

Title IX Content Creators Grant

As part of our Fan Project initiative, we created our Title IX Content Creator Grants, in which we gave $1,972 to four up-and-coming female entrepreneurs in the sports space. The value of $1972 honored the year Title IX was instituted, and we are looking forward to the 50th anniversary in June. We told the women to use the grants in whatever way they thought would bring about the most growth for their platforms. Below are the four phenomenal groups of women that were awarded and are making a difference with our grant.
